About
As this site's banner suggests, My Marketing Thing is about marketing ideas with oomph. But what does 'oomph' mean exactly?
According to The Free Dictionary 'oomph' means 'enthusiasm, vigour or energy' – but there's the sneaky second definition of 'sex appeal'. Mmmm.
The sex appeal bit
To be honest, I wasn't aware of the 'sex appeal' meaning when writing the tagline. And, after working in a feminist eating disorders centre (as Office Worker) the idea of promoting idealised women's 'bits' for the sake of making sales is simply NOT going to happen here.
(But you'll notice how Eric, the guy on my banner, is holding a really BIG megephone… no, you're right…best not idealise Eric either).
What my Marketing Thing is really about:
Letting you explore the different ways you can promote your thing.
Marketing confession #1- There’s more than one smart way to do your marketing thing.
Marketing confession #2 - Marketing doesn’t have to be a superficial hustle. I'm not spiritual or anything but…I think marketing can have some soul, don't you?
About me
A third confession? My name is Megan Hills and marketing is far from the only job I've had. You can suss out my War & Peace job list on another of my other sites: My Cartoon Thing. Turns out, my colourful work experience background has been incredibly useful in understanding how different workplaces and industries operate (i.e. people are just people, no matter where you go).
I now run a marketing and writing consultancy called wordmix – which now has some design and illustration services as well.
You'll also discover on another of my sites, My Burnout Thing, that I've been more than a little bit knackered.
Why should you care about my health?
Apart from the fact that you are a nice person, I mean. My health is relevant to you because burnout teaches us – quickly – about the 'smarter not harder' approach. And that includes smarter approaches to marketing.
What about your marketing?
If you want to have marketing with soul….the kind that creates an inspired human connection, i.e. marketing with integrity that works (without busting your hump to achieve it) read the posts of this site.
And don't forget to let us know what you think.
